FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. The acupuncture needle is an extremely fine, disposable, sterile, FDA approved medical device. Licensed acupuncturists undergo years of training in its safe implementation. In many states, including Massachusetts, continuing education credits must be obtained in order to keep your license current. Acupuncture can be used for newborns as young as a few days old.

How does acupuncture feel?

Many people find acupuncture to be a very relaxing experience. Some people may not feel the insertion of needles. Others may feel sensations at some acupuncture points but not others. Some commonly reported sensations include a feeling of heaviness, slight cramping, or distention around the needle or traveling up or down the affected Meridian (energy pathway).

How many treatments will I need?

Your course of treatment will depend on the duration, severity and nature of the complaint. It will also depend on your willingness to make positive lifestyle changes, like eating well and getting enough rest. Acute complaints may take as few as one treatment, while more longstanding complaints may take 5 to 15 treatments. Once your complaint has resolved, many people use acupuncture as a preventive measure, receiving "tune-ups" on a monthly basis or when needed.

Do you take insurance?

If you are covered for acupuncture we can give you a “health insurance claim form” as a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We do our best to honor "member discounts" from health insurances.

Do you offer discounted packages?

Yes. When you buy 5 treatments, you will receive a 10% discount. When you buy 10 treatments, you will receive 15% off. We also offer smoking cessation and addiction packages. Please call for details.
